Anna’s Nutrition Tips
1. Eat breakfast daily! Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. By eating a well balanced meal at breakfast you will keep your energy levels steady throughout the morning.
2. Add a small handful of almonds, walnuts or other nuts to your diet, by sprinkling them into salads, adding them to yogurt, or mixing them with dried fruits. Nuts are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, fiber, and have been known to reduce cholesterol.
3. Eat small meals throughout the day, instead of eating two or three large meals. By adopting this principle, your body burns calories more efficiently, and prevents your energy levels from dropping too low.
4. Incorporate resistance training into your workouts. It can increase your metabolism, bone density and strength, and reduce body fat.
5. Be good to yourself. Negative self talk and stress are unhealthy for the mind and body. Find ways to de-stress. Read a good book, practice yoga, do deep breathing exercises, or chat with a professional counselor.
6. Stay hydrated throughout the day by drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. Increase your water intake if you are exercising or outside in hot or humid weather. Remember if you are thirsty you are already hydrated. Add lemon slices to your water if you find the taste of water too bland. I usually keep a water bottle handy and drink a few of these a day.
